Technical Project Assistant

Program Overview

The NDTL Technical Project Assistant is a student worker position that provides hands-on learning experiences and a chance for students to see what it takes to run an aerospace test facility while, at the same time, working to enhance its operations. The program pairs student workers with NDTL staff mentors to work on projects, providing exposure to critical systems and processes at the turbomachinery test facility. This experience will enhance the knowledge of the student, help them gain skills in continuous improvement, system documentation and troubleshooting, and offers the opportunity to have true impact on a fully operational laboratory.

Learning Opportunities

The NDTL Technical Project Assistant position offers a wide range of learning opportunities and experiences for students, including:

  • Critical facility systems and infrastructure
  • Operational processes
  • Computer Aided Design & other diagrams
  • Complex systems engineering (mechanical, electrical)
    • Valves, regulators, variable frequency drives, etc.
    • Air plant
  • Test instrumentation

Program Activities

  • The position spans 10 weeks, with a maximum of 40 hours per week.
    • The exact number of hours will be determined by the assigned mentor.
  • Weekly Lunch and Learns
  • Opportunity to give an End of Summer Presentation to NDTL staff

Eligibility

To be eligible for the NDTL Technical Project Assistant position, applicants must be enrolled as undergraduates at a university or college at the start of the summer 2025 term. All majors are accepted. Applicants must be a US Citizenship or Green Card Holder.

Students belonging to groups traditionally underrepresented in engineering (women, members of underrepresented minorities, and those with disabilities) are strongly urged to apply.
